The Toyota Tacoma offers many levels of fun for drivers looking to get outside, and get off road on the many breathtaking and challenging Rocky Mountain trails near Denver. While the Sport, and TRD Off-Road are excellent choices, the model for true off-roading enthusiasts will always be the TRD Pro series.
The redesigned 2016 Tacoma joined our new inventory last year, but Toyota has been silent on plans for a TRD Pro edition... until now.
Unveiled last week at the Chicago Auto Show, the 2017 Tacoma TRD Pro will offer six-speed manual and automatic transmission. Experienced drivers may prefer the control of a manual, while fans of automatic will enjoy optimized efficiency thanks to the Tacoma's ability to swap between more efficient Atkinson engine cycles, and more powerful Otto cycles when torque is needed.
The TRD Pro comes with a 1 inch lift, 16 inch wheels, Kevlar reinforced tires, and a 1/4 inch skid plate. However, its real advantage over the TRD Off-Road package is in its shocks. Designed with desert racing in mind, the Toyota TRD Pro's Fox shocks are 55 percent larger than the TRD Off-Road. This prevents overheating and shock-fade during long, fast runs over rough terrain.
