Tips On How To Avoid Hidden Costs
Whether you choose to buy your new vehicle from us, or buy from another store, we want to help you.
Unfortunately, most other dealers are still playing the old "dealer games" that you've learned to hate. We refuse to do business this way and want to give you some tips on things to avoid. This is our gift to you.
We will NOT do any of the things we're going to share with you!
TIP #1: These sneaky things below. These are "Addendums":
- What are "Addendums"? ā Addendums are stickers that dealers put on the windshield of their cars. They itemize equipment that the dealer has already installed on the car and you then have to pay for.
- What the dealer does ā The sneaky dealer will quote you a price through email or phone, often a very low price, then when you go to purchase the car they will then show you the Addendum Sticker. Now all of a sudden the car is $800 to $1,400 more than you were quoted.
- What should you do? ā Call the dealer and ask them if the car they are giving you a quote on has any "Addendums" or dealer added equipment. If they say "no" and then you show up and find this to be true, walk away.
TIP #2: Dealer Handling Fees! Why would you pay a "Dealer Handling Fee"?!
- What are "Dealer Handling Fees"? ā Dealer Handling Fees are nothing more than additional profit to the dealer. Depending on which Toyota store you are going to, the Dealer Handling Fee is between $400 to $700. EVERY SINGLE TOYOTA DEALER IN COLORADO HAS A DEALER HANDLING FEE, EXCEPT MOUNTAIN STATES TOYOTA!
- What the dealer does. ā The sneaky dealer will quote you a price through email or phone and then, when you are completing the paperwork, there will all of a sudden be a Dealer Handling Fee added. They will try to explain that this fee is to "pay the title clerks, the detail department for cleaning the car, gas to go in to the car, etc". It's not. It's ADDITIONAL PROFIT.
- Other things they do ā They'll try to say, "OK, we'll discount the car an additional $500 and then add it in." This isn't true or correct. By law, if they charge it to one person, they have to charge everyone for it. If you see it on your paperwork, you paid it!
- What should you do? ā First and foremost, you shouldn't tolerate a dealer that tries to slip in a Dealer Handling Fee. If the dealer does, walk away. This isn't the way you want to do business and neither do we.
